Barn Quilt Custom Ordering
I embrace the "effort heuristic": taking great pride in working carefully, thoroughly, thoughtfully,
and with love to ensure the highest quality possible. - Cinda
Thank you for your interest in a custom barn quilt! The current turnaround time is approximately 4-8 weeks depending on the complexity of the project and the artist's schedule. Please review the design process and pricing guidelines below BEFORE submitting a custom request. Then, please complete the following form:
Process
I first create the original design using the digital illustration software Canva. Then, the "canvas" for my barn quilts is a durable 3mm aluminum composite sign board that holds up well to the elements. I draw the design in pencil and then paint the barn quilt using a multi-coat dabbing technique with an exterior-grade, satin-finish paint that assures smooth and solid coverage. To finish the project and provide protection, I apply a triple coat of Polyacrylic for indoor barn quilts or Spar Urethane for outdoor barn quilts.
Pricing
Pricing is dependent on a number of factors and is customized to the order. These factors may include:
What level is the barn quilt? The complexity and size of the design and resulting drawing, taping, and painting is the primary factor when pricing a custom barn quilt project. For example, how many edges need to be taped (using painter's tape to create the cleanest lines possible) and how many times does each section need to be painted (each taped-off section usually gets 2-3 coats)?
Level 1 barn quilts are very simple (less than 10 geometric edges) and thus require a minimal number of times taped and painted while...
Level 5 barn quilts are extremely complex (maybe hundreds of edges) and may take up to 3 months or more to produce.
Current or New Design: Is the design from my current portfolio or a new design requiring an original digital art rendering first? If the design is not already in my portfolio or requires custom colors not in my existing barn quilts, there is an additional charge (between $25-$175 depending on the design requirements). You may view a collection of hundreds of barn quilt examples at this Pinterest link (no account needed), keeping in mind two things:
These are just a collection of a wide variety of barn quilt examples from around the Web, but they can serve as a starting point for your design.
I only work in geometric shapes; I do not do any freeform painting.
Colors in the artist's current collection or new colors provided by the client? See my current palette of available colors below. The client is welcome to choose any colors from the local paint store or create custom colors, as well.
Custom Sizes: Is the size requested not included in the sizes shown below? Anything outside of my standard sizes must be custom-ordered with my supplier in Asheville or Charlotte and may add time to the project. There is a special order fee for custom sizes that helps me cover ordering, gas, and time.
Base Rates
All rates shown below are base rates. Depending on the specific design, number of colors desired, requests for custom colors, and other potential factors (such as custom sizes beyond the standard sizes shown in inches below), a custom-designed barn quilt may be priced higher than what is listed.

Colors
View the artist's currently available colors (link opens in new tab or window). Other colors may be acquired at additional cost. Please keep in mind that the artist reserves the right to alter color choices slightly to create the most appealing product. The client will approve their design with the chosen colors in digital format before the actual work on the barn quilt begins. Two revisions are available free of charge; additional revisions are quoted depending on the size and complexity of the project.
Ordering and Production Process
Roughly, here is the design process. Of course, steps may vary depending on schedules and needs. The artist is a busy mom and a property manager and works on projects evenings and weekends. Currently, turnaround time is 4-8 weeks. Thank you, in advance for your patience!
Step 1 - Complete the following form providing information such as size, design example, and colors: Custom Barn Quilt Custom Request
Step 2 - Receive a custom quote (within 3-5 business days); revise and finalize as needed via email communication.
Step 3 - Accept the project design and agreement and pay the non-refundable digital design fee (between $25-$75) payment via check, Zelle or Venmo. Work will not begin until these steps are completed and the digital design fee is successfully deposited.
Step 4 - You will receive a mock-up digital illustration within 14 business days unless otherwise scheduled. Two revisions are permitted free of charge, with additional revisions requiring a $10 per revision fee.
Step 5 - The project is in process. You will receive an email/photo confirmation once the project is ready. The artist may be able to send photo updates periodically during the painting process, as well.
Step 6 - Schedule pick-up and make payment. Pick-up is at the Watauga Arts Council, Mon-Fri: 8 am-5 pm or by appointment with the artist, at 377 Shadowline Drive, Boone, NC 28607 (Google map link). Delivery by mail is not available due to the fragile nature of the paint. The remainder of the project price is due at the time of delivery/pick-up.
Note about hanging the finished product: Drilling holes for hanging (if desired) and hardware for hanging the finished project is the client's responsibility. Typically, holes are drilled into each corner and the barn quilt is secured to the wall with screws appropriate to the wall material. But depending on the weight and location (interior vs exterior), other ways of hanging may be possible.
